Capital Markets: Boston Fed Says MMFs Get More Support than Realized

Although only the Reserve Primary Fund broke the buck during the crisis, many more would have if not for significant sponsor support.

A new Boston Fed study says money market fund sponsor support obscures the risks in the funds. The paper’s findings further bolster the Securities and Exchange Commission’s assertions that the funds need to be revamped so they will be less of a burden to the system in the event of another financial crisis.
